Yes because drops are shared by all party members, human or computer controlled.

Yes, henchies will take their share of the drops/loot.

They aren't charity workers, you effectively pay for their time by giving them a share ^^

I usually go farming in SF with henchies, The only thing i don't like is sharing the gold, and the drop rates do decrease but at least if a green does drop you will get it

You do "hire" henchies, and since you don't pay them directly they take a cut of whatever you get when with you, just like real players.

I had to learn this little bit the hard way...

As everyone else has previously stated, henchies do take thier share of the gold and a good portion of the items that are dropped. The more henchmen you bring along, the less you will get. If you do need the extra help, try to limit yourself as to which henchies you bring along. Being a Ranger/Mesmer and prone to getting forced into fighting large numbers of enemies, I tend to bring along Orion (mage) and/or Alesia (healer). Orion has a habit of casting Firestorm, which does a good job helping me take out larger groups. Alesia keeps me healed when the going gets rough and I can't stay at a distance... Depending on the area I am going through, I'll take either one or both of them along, if I take them at all. Most of the time I prefer to solo play, as I don't lose out on the drops and experience. I resort to henchmen and parties only when necessary.

Bah! Henchies take stuff!

Decided it was about time my Ranger stepped foot outside Ascalon and went to do the The Great Northern Wall mission... Failed to get the bonus cos one of the henchies took one of the quest items!

Although, it could easily have been my pet!

So many people feel they must solo farm to get the drops because of the greedy henchies, that I suggest that ANet ought to limit henchie pickups to low level items only, players always get greens, purples, and golds always.

Or does ANet want to encourage solo farming? I am confused.

yes you are indeed confused

the henchies are there to fill in blank spots when you cant get a full group of real people together or just want to spend a short time playing or may have to leave at a moments notice.

TRY TO HAVE REAL PEOPLE GIVE YOU ALL OF THE GOOD DROPS AFTER A HARD MISSION AND THEY WILL TELL YOU TO STUFF IT

SO............ON BEHALF OF HARD WORKING HENCHIES EVERYWHERE............STUFFIT

A good idea is to pick an area you would like to farm. Grab some henchies and go for it. When you become familiar with that area, try it again but drop one of the henchmen. If you can still clear the are comfortably, drop another henchman. Keep doing this until you find your limit. Eventually you will understand better ways to defeat the enemies of the area, hopefully even solo.

The way I do it if I use henchies is cut down on them say in half so if there is 6 I make it 3 and so on.
